How To Get Government Grants To Save Energy In Your Home

Filed under: Find Government Grants, Installing Insulation, People, Targets — Michael @ 5:05 pm

There are many reasons why it’s a good idea to save energy in the home these days. To begin with, prices of gas and electricity in Europe have been very high in recent times, and so you can save a lot of money by making your home more efficient. As well as saving money, we all need to do our bit to help fight climate change by reducing the amount of energy we use. Finally, some of the things you can do to save energy in your home, such as installing insulation, can make your home warmer and more comfortable in winter.

The U.K. government and some local authorities are keen to encourage people to save energy in order to help it meet European targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to help people cut the amount they have to pay in energy bills. They offer big grants to help pay for home energy efficiency, such as installing insulation or more efficient central heating. However, you need to know what is available and how to apply

Almost everyone is eligible to receive a major contribution to the cost of installing insulation in their home, or else a more efficient heating system that saves energy. The main way you can do this is by arranging for your insulation or heating upgrade to be done by one of the major national insulation or central heating companies or, alternatively through a major energy supplier. You first need to arrange for a quote from them, and in the quote they should let you know how much you can qualify for in grants. If you agree to the quote, they will then take care of all the paperwork and administration as well as completing the work for you.

Many local authorities will also make a contribution to the cost of insulation and heating improvements. You should look on your local authority web-site, or contact them by phone to see what grants are available specifically from them and how you can apply.

Finally, it is quite possible that you will be able to get all of this work done for free. The UK Government provides up to £2,700 to households where a member of the household is receiving certain benefits. In England the scheme is called ‘Warm Front’, In Northern Ireland it is ‘Warm Homes’, in Scotland ‘Warm Deal’, and in Wales it is the ‘Home Energy Efficiency Scheme’. If you receive any benefits, you should contact your energy supplier or a major insulation or central heating installer, and they can tell you what kind of work you can have done for free. When you have the work done, they should also take care of the administration for you, leaving you free to enjoy a more comfortable home and lower heating bills.

What Would You Do With $100,000 Grant?

Filed under: Corporations, Free Government Grants, Hovel, Tax Dollars — Michael @ 4:04 pm

Would you start a business? Support your non-profit agency? Get a college degree? Build a house, or just fix up that tattered little hovel you call home? The list goes on and the opportunities are limitless!

Private foundations donate millions of dollars to help people, non-profit organizations and worldly causes every year. Government and Federal grant money stimulates the economy making our nation and our citizens stronger and more productive. This money is comprised of billions of dollars of privately donated cash and tax dollars. YOUR TAX DOLLARS!

Most American’s are unaware that there are millions of dollars in our country’s budget designated to inspire and support small businesses, educate American citizens, and to improve and maintain the general welfare of our country and that there are millions of dollars donated by corporations and private foundations that go to the right people: the ones who ask for it.

Even the people who are aware of these funds, don’t know where to begin to acquire them, or don’t think that they would possibly be awarded free money from the government. Even if you aren’t a needy child, there are organizations designed to help YOU open that little vegetarian café you’ve been dreaming about all these years.

It just sounds too good to be true…and you never have to pay it back?!?

Actually, it is true, and the reason most people will never see a penny of this money, their own tax dollars, is because they don’t know the procedures to follow to make it a reality. If you’ve ever Googled government grants, or grant money, you probably gave up pretty quickly. It’s unbelievably overwhelming and time consuming not to mention the sheer volume of illegitimate grant scams that exist to try to lure you in with the promise of huge free money, only to find that it cost you $100 to never hear from them again.

I can’t say that I ever heard of a grant for sale!

So are you still dreaming of opening that café and quitting your boring desk job? Tired of spending your hours and breaking your back so someone else can get rich and spend another week in the Bahamas while you squint below the neon lights, quietly inputting numbers into databases? YUCK! You need a plan and you need the funds to make your plan a reality. Grant money is there for the taking.

How will you get your hands on some of this cash?

You can spend hours and hours online researching the thousands upon thousands of public and private agencies who are offering grants, weeding through the scam artists and spammers, to zone in on the (hopefully) legitimate ones who’s criteria match you or your group, fill out the application, write up the proposal, track the proposal, decipher the responses…and still wonder, OR you can let someone else do that for you while you plan your cuisine and pick out curtains and floor tiles.

Increase your chances of attaining a grant by allowing a professional to assist you. Using a grant writer can make all the difference. Professional writers who have been trained and well educated to obtain all of the information that the grantors are looking for and match that up with the right individuals or organizations to bring money to the people who need it are the people you want on your side.

You want someone writing your proposal who will present your request so that it will jump to the top of the pile upon being reviewed; writers who understand what the grantors are looking for and can verbalize your situation in such an eloquent manner and highlight all of your more prominent circumstances to augment your probability of approval.

Do you know what a grant proposal should look like? Do you know that there is a certain format that needs to be followed? Can you submit a project description and a budget? Oh, you didn’t know you needed that?

It really can be the difference between getting that $100,000 grant or giving up on the search and your dream at the same time.

It seems attainable. The money is there and there are grant researchers and grant writers to help you apply and collect the money. The government and private foundations want you to have it. So what is still holding you back?

You’ll never know until you try, and regret carries heavier than failure.

How to spot distance learning scams

Filed under: Financial Aid, Free Government Grants, High School Diploma, Scams — Michael @ 9:59 pm

The best way to spot a distance learning scam is to research it. I have found that most, if not all, of the ones found as internet advertisements are exactly that. I have noticed that many of them target people looking to take classes online. Something everyone should know is that 90% of community colleges offer their basic classes online and many universities offer their master degrees fully online. There is no need to attend a college in 12 states away if you can get the same thing at “home.” I went looking for a college that offered an associate’s degree online so that I could stay home with my three small children and still get my education under wraps. I did a google search of online colleges and everyone I found was a scam waiting to get me. I decided that it wasn’t worth the risk and went to an off-site campus of the nearest community college and got their website. As I was navigating my way through their website I discovered they offer the classes and the degrees I was looking for. A big red flag when searching websites is that a real school will have a very extinisive website where the scams have very little options. For most scams there is only a place to put your mailing information and buy their program. One of the biggest scams is the school that advertises on TV and through the mail. My mother-in-law went through their high school diploma course and it doesn’t stand up. She can’t go to college with it and she can’t claim a high school diploma as her education on job applications. The place is not accreditated. Another big red flag is whether or not they accept financial aid from the government. If you can’t get grants and student loans through them, they are not recognized by the government. When it comes to schools and higher education, look for these three signs of being a scam; website abilities, acceptance of financial aid, and accredidation.

Business Grants in the UK Available to Overseas Businesses

Filed under: Business Grants, Government Business, Key Point, leadership — Michael @ 6:16 pm

Many people – in companies all over the world in fact – face the problem of trying to start a business. It is a classic dilemma: you have an idea to make money, but you need money in order to start the business. It’s a classic "Catch-22" scenario. So, that is where a government business grant can come into play. As it happens, the United Kingdom is one of the very best places on Earth to either start or expand a small company. They offer business grants to native UK residents but also people relocating their businesses in the UK for overseas, so you can get in on the act too!

The good news about business grants from the government is that there are lots of them out there. The bad news: you have to seek them out and apply; they do not come looking for you. There are close to two dozen different business grants in the UK. So, let’s look at just a few of them. First, there’s the direct grant, where a program will give you some funds to pay part of the costs for training, product development etc. Now, that’s a key point: part of the costs. It’s rare for a grant to completely cover the costs of some aspect of your business, but it will at least cover a portion.

Then there are grants that are much like a small business loan. The difference is, if your business fails, you do not have to repay the money. And then there are real business loans; they are called soft loans because the terms and conditions are very generous. The interest rate is usually quite low, some are even interest free. Next, you can get what is known as equity financing. With this type of grant, you don’t pay the grantor back in cash, but in shares in your company. In this case, the grantor looks at your business as an investment; they believe you have the potential to grow your company into something profitable, and that will mean that the shares they own will increase in value.

Sometimes, business grants in the UK aren’t about money at all; they have to do with skills. After all, many new businesses often lack knowledge or skills in a particular area: marketing, promotions etc. So, some grant programs have come to recognize this, and they offer free (or greatly reduced) advice on those critical subjects. Then there’s the issue of resources. For some small business owners, it’s not that they don’t know what they’re doing; it’s that they don’t have the physical materials or maybe a factory / store to develop their product or service. So, some grants are made of up raw materials, office equipment etc. Going hand in hand with this type of grant is the transfer of technology. Very often, new and innovative inventions or processes are created by large corporations or government labs. In the U.S., NASA was responsible for incredible breakthroughs in fuel cells, computers etc. So, sometimes large corporations or governments will share these new developments with some small companies as a means of both helping they to get started, and to disseminate the technology.

Then there is the issue of not new technology, but merely the best way of doing something. As an example, a dozen people will have a different way of laying bricks. Yet, one of them might do it the best and most efficient way. Over time, that way will become the industry standard. This is also known as "Best Practices", and some companies will share these with start-up firms to help them operate in the most efficient means possible.

Avoid the Trap of Debt Relief Scams-00-641

Filed under: Ammo, Free Government Grants, Insight, Misery — Michael @ 4:25 pm

Persons in debt can benefit greatly with a debt relief program designed specifically for their individual circumstances. There really is no such thing as the one plan that can help each person because condition and circumstance can vary greatly. Finding a debt relief program specifically for your needs is important so you can get out of debt in a timely manner.

In disposal to avoid facade – to – guise meetings, whether because of day constraints or the enjoyment of being embarrassed, plentiful people research a debt relief program on the internet. Bit there are multifarious ethical companies operating online, there are a few things to commemorate when you are considering a program online. Pioneer, there is no identification requirement to lay foundation a website or to procure a realm pseudonym. Thence, anyone with a computer can buy a signature and set up a website offering a debt relief program.

Most online advertisers achieve not hurting for identification for advertisements placed other than the billing ammo. Unless charges on a credit or debit make are disputed, no one checks the experience of internet sites offering a debt relief program and rife sites suggestion no insight as to who is in charge.

Common debt relief scams

Many companies offer debt relief scams looking to take advantage of someone else ‘ s misery to make money. Promising to reduce personal debt while keeping creditors at bay, they carry out their debt relief scams on those who can least afford to lose their money.

Some debt relief scams are outright deceptive, who take money from unsuspecting people and never pay a dime to creditors so that the person is out of money and the creditors are still looking for payments. They will usually set up a fake storefront or internet portal that vanishes almost as fast as it was started. Names change almost every week and the ones who responsible for these scams do their best to remain anonymous.

Normally, debt relief scams will accept payments only in the form of cash or money order and usually refuse debit or credit cards due their tracking capabilities. They push to get the money in cash by saying that with the business they are in dealing in currency allows them to reduce costs as well as keep their service fees as minimum as possible.

With some debt relief scams they will actually contact creditors and inform them they are working on your behalf and negotiate lower payments. You will also have the benefit of making one payment to them and in turn they will send payments to your creditors. However, their service fees can be ridiculously high and sometimes even as high as 50 percent of your monthly payment.

While your debt is being reduced, the debt relief scam company is getting rich by charging you as much as all of the combined creditors are receiving. For example, if you have 10 creditors and are paying the scam company $200 per month, the company is keeping $100 for itself while your creditors are receiving $10 each per month. Therefore, depending on the total debt amount, it can take a long time to pay off the bills.

Another of the big debt relief scams involves offering to sell you information about where to go for government grants to get debt relief. When you are visiting sites of the US government or state governments, it soon becomes apparent that there is no such thing as a free lunch from the government. There are no such things as free government grants to help with your personal debt. The company is selling you a CD and a monthly subscription for you to use the information on the CD to apply for grants that you most likely will not qualify to receive.

Understand who you are dealing with

Many online companies use a PO Box for mailing purposes to help maintain their personal privacy, but legal companies will not have any problem in supplying a physical address to their potential customers. Therefore, those companies offering a debt relief program that refuse to give anything other than a PO Box may not be completely honest. There should also be contact information readily available on the site, together with a name, email address, and phone number.

With that information unavailable, you cannot tell who you are doing business with and entering into a debt relief program on blind faith because of what is presented on a web site is definitely not the smartest move. When you think about it, they are asking you to send money to an unknown person at an unknown location on the promise to provide services. Being unwilling to supply specific information should make you question whether the company can or will provide the service they promise.

How do you find grants?

How Do You Find Grants?
By Jillian Coleman Wheeler
Not too long ago, grant writers had to rely on “hard copy” sources to research potential funders. That meant haunting libraries and buying expensive, quickly obsolete directories. Now, of course, a great deal of information in available on the Internet.
The first place to look for funders is usually close to home. Community foundations have been organized in many geographic areas. These foundations are supported through contributions by citizens, companies and other foundations.
There are probably private foundations in your area, as well, established by wealthy families to support local projects. You may find listings of these and other foundations in your library, or through your Chamber of Commerce.
Most large foundations have websites where you can learn about their organization, funding cycles, types of support and restrictions. Each website will usually include a downloadable application for funding.
Under federal law, all private foundations, every year, must file a Form 990-PF. This form is a public record, and it provides very useful information about the foundation’s finances, Board of Directors, and particularly which grants it has made during the previous year. If you identify a foundation as promising, be sure and read its 990-PF.
Local corporations are always a strong potential resource. Companies generally prefer to support projects where they have a high concentration of employees. If your city has major manufacturers, or company headquarters, or inventory centers, research the philanthropic goals of those companies.
Corporate websites usually provide information about their giving programs under the headings “Community” or “Community Involvement”. When a corporation has established its own foundation, the corporate website should provide a link to the foundation website.
If you discover your project is outside a local company’s usual parameters for grantsmaking, don’t give up. It may still be worthwhile approaching them if the project will be important to their employees or customers. Companies also like the visibility they gain when they underwrite local causes.
Don’t limit your research to local funders, of course. Contact companies whose corporate mission is in alignment with the goals of your project. For example, Whole Foods is a chain of natural foods grocery stores. They like to support (among others) sustainable agriculture programs. Look for foundations known for supporting certain kinds of projects.
Government grants are available through the federal, state or provincial, or local governments. In the United States, a complete listing of federal grants appears in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, available at local libraries. Similar listings are available in other countries.
Your elected officials are a good resource for information about government grants. In particular, the office of your local Congressman will happily provide you with details of programs that make grants in your area of interest. For state grants, the Office of the Governor usually maintains information they make available to citizens. On a local level, you can contact the Office of the Mayor or City Manager, as well as County Commissioners or Board of Supervisor members.
